Netflix vows to preserve HBO team amid Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition
Netflix's co-CEO Greg Peters has pledged to keep the acclaimed HBO team fully intact following the company's planned takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. In a recent interview, Peters emphasized that this elite group excels at nurturing top talent and crafting exceptional stories, promising them a prominent brand and broader audience under Netflix's umbrella. This commitment addresses widespread concerns in Hollywood about the future of HBO's storied programming division during a turbulent period of corporate consolidation.
Peters highlighted HBO as a benchmark of premium quality, signaling to viewers the high-caliber content they can expect. The assurance points to continuity for key executives, including HBO and Max content chief Casey Bloys, who recently expressed pride in the team's achievements and optimism for its legacy. While details on merging HBO and HBO Max into Netflix's platform remain undecided whether as separate services or integrated Peters noted the potential for enhanced consumer value through bundled offerings at lower prices.
The statements come as Netflix navigates a rival 108 billion-dollar bid from Paramount Skydance for Warner Bros. Discovery. Netflix countered on January 20 with an all-cash offer of 27.75 dollars per share, part of an 83 billion-dollar deal announced in December 2025. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos also reaffirmed support for theatrical releases, committing to industry-standard 45-day windows for Warner Bros. films. Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders are set to vote on the revised proposal by April 2026, with closure expected within 12 to 18 months pending regulatory approval.
