Netflix to increase subscription prices in Morocco from September 2026
Netflix has announced a new pricing update for its subscription plans in Morocco, with the revised rates set to take effect in September 2026. The move is part of the company's broader pricing strategy as it continues investing in original content, platform improvements, and digital services while adapting to changes in the global streaming market.
According to notifications sent to subscribers, the monthly fee for the Standard plan will increase from 65 Moroccan dirhams to 80 dirhams, while the Basic plan will rise from 37 dirhams to 45 dirhams. Depending on the selected package, subscription prices in Morocco will now range between 45 and 115 dirhams per month, with costs varying according to video quality, available features, and the number of devices supported.
Netflix has already begun informing customers of the upcoming changes through email notifications and has updated the pricing information on its official Moroccan platform. The company says the increase is intended to support continued investment in films, television series, documentaries, and other original productions while enhancing the overall user experience through technological improvements.
The announcement comes as Morocco introduces updated tax regulations affecting digital services provided by foreign companies operating in the country. Under the new framework, eligible international digital service providers are required to comply with value-added tax (VAT) obligations. While Netflix has not directly linked the price adjustment to these regulatory changes, the timing has prompted discussion about the possible impact of evolving tax policies on digital subscription costs.
The Moroccan price increase reflects a broader global trend. In recent years, Netflix has revised its subscription fees in several international markets, explaining that additional revenue helps finance high-quality productions, expand content libraries, and improve streaming technology as competition intensifies across the entertainment industry.
The streaming sector has become increasingly competitive, with multiple international platforms offering exclusive content and promotional pricing to attract and retain subscribers. As a result, consumers are paying closer attention to pricing, content selection, and service quality before choosing a streaming provider.
Industry analysts note that while price increases may encourage some users to review their subscriptions, demand for premium streaming services remains strong, particularly as platforms continue expanding their original programming and investing in new technologies to improve viewing experiences.
