Morocco strengthens African partnerships at Nairobi summit
Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to African cooperation and sustainable development as Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch arrived in Nairobi to represent HM king Mohammed VI at the “Africa Forward” Summit and the 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Congo Basin Climate Commission (CCBC).
The high-level meetings, held on May 11 and 12 in the Kenyan capital, bring together African leaders, international partners and economic stakeholders to discuss investment opportunities, regional cooperation and climate-related challenges across the continent.
Upon his arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Akhannouch was welcomed by senior Kenyan officials, including representatives from the Ministry of Public Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Moroccan diplomatic representatives stationed in Kenya also attended the reception ceremony.
The Moroccan delegation includes several government officials, among them Leila Benali, Amine Tehraoui and Karim Zidane. Business leaders from the Confédération Générale des Entreprises du Maroc (CGEM), led by Chakib Alj, are also participating in the event.
The “Africa Forward” Summit focuses on strengthening partnerships between African countries and international partners, particularly in the fields of economic development, infrastructure, education and innovation. Discussions are expected to highlight the importance of balanced cooperation and increased cross-border investment to support long-term growth across Africa.
Meanwhile, the CCBC Summit will address climate resilience and environmental financing in the Congo Basin region, one of the world’s most important ecological zones. Leaders are expected to review strategies aimed at mobilising financial resources for environmental protection and sustainable development projects.
The summit also serves as a preparatory stage ahead of the donors’ roundtable dedicated to the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin, scheduled later this month in Brazzaville. Officials hope the initiative will encourage stronger international support for climate adaptation and natural resource preservation in Central Africa.
