Dozens rescued after building collapse in the Philippines
Emergency teams in Philippines launched a large-scale rescue operation after a nine-story building under construction collapsed in Angeles City during severe weather conditions.
According to local authorities, the incident occurred early Sunday amid a powerful thunderstorm that struck the area. Officials reported that between 30 and 40 people were believed to be trapped beneath the debris immediately after the collapse.
Rescue workers, police officers, firefighters, and government emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene to search for survivors. Authorities confirmed that at least 26 people had been rescued from the rubble, while efforts continued to locate additional victims feared trapped under the remains of the structure.
More than 100 emergency personnel participated in the operation, using heavy equipment and specialized rescue tools to remove debris and reach survivors safely. Medical teams were also deployed to provide immediate treatment to the injured.
Local officials stated that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Authorities are expected to examine construction standards, weather conditions, and safety procedures at the site.
Building collapses remain a serious concern in several rapidly developing urban areas across Asia, particularly during extreme weather events such as heavy rains and thunderstorms. Experts frequently emphasize the importance of strict construction regulations and regular inspections to reduce risks to workers and residents.
The incident has drawn national attention in the Philippines, where citizens continue to follow updates on the rescue operation and the condition of those affected by the disaster.
