SNCF reorganizes Voyageurs division as Christophe Fanichet leaves CEO role
SNCF has announced a major governance change within its passenger transport subsidiary SNCF Voyageurs, with CEO Christophe Fanichet set to leave his current position as the company introduces a new leadership structure aimed at accelerating strategic transformation.
SNCF Chairman and CEO Jean Castex announced the reorganization on Tuesday, explaining that the move is intended to bring “new momentum” and establish new strategic priorities for the division.
Christophe Fanichet, who has led SNCF Voyageurs since the subsidiary was created on January 1, 2020, will take on new responsibilities within the wider SNCF group. The company said he retains the confidence of Jean Castex and will continue contributing to the group’s activities.
A new dual leadership model
Rather than appointing a direct successor to Fanichet, SNCF has chosen to split responsibilities between two executives.
Laurent Trevisani, currently SNCF’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer for strategy and finance, will become chairman of the SNCF Voyageurs board of directors. Jean-Aimé Mougenot will take over as managing director of the passenger division.
The new structure is designed to strengthen coordination between financial strategy, operational management and future development plans as the rail sector faces increasing competition and changing passenger expectations.
Fanichet’s role in the transformation of SNCF Voyageurs
Christophe Fanichet played a central role in shaping SNCF Voyageurs during a period of significant change for French rail transport. His tenure coincided with the preparation of the company for the opening of the domestic passenger rail market to competition.
Under his leadership, SNCF Voyageurs managed the challenges linked to the transformation of the railway industry, including adapting services, improving customer experience and preparing for new competitive dynamics.
SNCF seeks new strategic direction
The leadership reshuffle comes as SNCF continues to adjust its organization to evolving market conditions and long-term transport challenges.
With the appointment of a new management structure, the French railway group aims to reinforce the position of SNCF Voyageurs while responding to demands for greater efficiency, innovation and competitiveness in passenger rail services.
