Hungarian prosecutors search Fidesz offices in corruption investigation

Hungarian prosecutors have carried out a search of premises linked to Fidesz, the political party led by former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, as part of an investigation into alleged corruption and misuse of public funds. The operation marks a rare development in Hungary's political landscape following the party's loss of power earlier this year.

The search was confirmed on Tuesday by the Hungarian prosecution service, which said the investigation is focused on suspected financial crimes involving the country's National Cultural Fund.

According to the prosecution service, the Bács-Kiskun Prosecutor's Office is leading a criminal investigation into alleged embezzlement and other suspected offences connected to the National Cultural Fund.
