Morocco strengthens startup funding performance in first half of 2026
Morocco's startup ecosystem gained momentum during the first half of 2026, posting stronger fundraising results and climbing the African rankings for venture capital activity. New figures released by Africa The Big Deal indicate that the Kingdom attracted more investment than during the same period last year, reflecting growing investor confidence in its innovation landscape.
The latest performance also highlights Morocco's steady progress in an increasingly competitive African startup ecosystem.
Startup fundraising reaches $28 million
According to Africa The Big Deal's mid-year assessment, Moroccan startups secured a combined $28 million in funding during the first six months of 2026.
The financing was spread across 12 investment deals valued at $100,000 or more, an improvement over the 10 qualifying transactions recorded during the first half of the previous year.
The stronger deal flow suggests that Morocco is not only attracting more capital but is also generating a broader pipeline of investment-ready startups across multiple sectors.
Morocco climbs African investment rankings
With its latest fundraising performance, Morocco moved up to eighth place among African countries in terms of startup funding during the period.
The Kingdom continues to trail Africa's traditional venture capital leaders—Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya—while Benin maintained its position among the continent's top-performing startup ecosystems.
Morocco was also ranked behind Tanzania, which attracted $52 million, and Côte d'Ivoire, where startups raised $30 million during the first half of the year.
The improved ranking marks progress from the same period in 2025, when Morocco occupied ninth place in Africa.
Signs of a maturing innovation ecosystem
The increase in both total fundraising and the number of sizeable investment rounds points to a startup ecosystem that is gradually expanding its capacity to attract investors.
Although Morocco remains outside the continent's leading investment markets, the latest figures indicate continued momentum supported by entrepreneurial activity, innovation initiatives and a growing network of investors seeking opportunities across North Africa.
As competition for venture capital intensifies across the continent, sustained growth in deal volume could strengthen Morocco's position as one of Africa's emerging technology and startup hubs.
