Constructive meeting between Joumblatt and Geagea amid regional tensions

In a rare political appearance outside his residence, Lebanese Forces (LF) leader Samir Geagea met on Wednesday with prominent Druze leader Walid Joumblatt at the latter’s home in Clemenceau, Beirut. Also attending the meeting were LF MP Melhem Riachi and Democratic Gathering MP Wael Abou Faour. According to the official National News Agency (NNA), the discussion focused on recent political developments in Lebanon and the broader region.

Following the talks, Geagea described the meeting as "fruitful and useful on all levels," expressing cautious optimism about Lebanon's future, adding: “May God guide things for the better.”

The encounter between Geagea and Joumblatt comes as the country navigates political paralysis and continued pressure from international actors regarding the disarmament of Hezbollah. The visit also coincides with the arrival of U.S. envoy Tom Barrack in Beirut, a figure closely involved in regional diplomatic efforts.

This political dialogue takes place against a backdrop of regional instability. In neighboring Syria, clashes between Druze factions and Sunni tribes—backed by government forces—in the southern province of Sweida have resulted in over 1,200 deaths. The spillover effects of these tensions are being felt in parts of Lebanon, especially within communities with cross-border sectarian ties.

The meeting reflects an attempt by key Lebanese leaders to seek internal consensus and reinforce national dialogue amid a fragile security and political landscape.
