Nayef Aguerd moves closer to Al-Sadd as Marseille consider transfer deal

Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd could be heading for a new chapter in his career in Qatar, with Al-Sadd reportedly closing in on a potential agreement with Olympique de Marseille for his transfer.

According to reports from Foot Mercato, negotiations between the French club and the Qatari side have progressed significantly, with discussions focused on a possible paid loan deal worth €4 million, including an automatic purchase option valued at €11 million. The agreement could eventually bring Marseille around €15 million while helping the club reduce its wage expenses.

The proposed structure represents a shift in Marseille’s initial strategy. The French club had previously preferred a permanent transfer to secure immediate financial returns, but after failing to receive offers matching its expectations, it is now considering a loan arrangement with a mandatory purchase clause.

However, the agreement between the two clubs does not complete the deal yet. Al-Sadd must still reach an agreement with Aguerd himself regarding personal terms and convince the Moroccan international to continue his career in Qatar.

Aguerd, who joined Marseille only a year ago, remains under contract with the club until 2030. The 30-year-old centre-back has attracted interest from several teams, including his former club Stade Rennais, which explored the possibility of bringing him back during the current transfer window.

If the final negotiations are successful, the Atlas Lion defender could join Al-Sadd and continue his career in the Qatari league. The move would also allow Marseille to strengthen its financial position and continue restructuring its squad during the summer transfer market.
