Italy’s CDP targets further defence acquisitions after T-Defence investment
Italy’s state-backed investment group Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) is preparing further expansion in the defence sector after securing a majority stake in technology and security company T-Defence, according to sources familiar with the strategy.
The move reflects Rome’s broader effort to strengthen domestic defence capabilities and consolidate a fragmented industrial ecosystem as European countries increase investment in security and strategic technologies.
CDP seeks to build stronger defence supply chains
Through its investment arm CDP Equity, the Italian state lender is set to acquire an 85.5% stake in T-Defence from technology group Tinexta. The transaction is expected to make the company a platform for further growth within Italy’s defence and high-tech security sectors.
Sources indicated that CDP plans to use T-Defence as a driver for consolidation, with additional acquisitions currently under consideration. The objective is to expand the company’s role in supporting the national defence supply chain and strengthening industrial capabilities.
Strategic acquisitions under study
According to people familiar with the matter, CDP is examining at least two potential takeover opportunities as part of its longer-term strategy.
The planned operations are part of a broader trend across Europe, where governments and industrial players are seeking to reinforce domestic defence production, improve technological independence and develop stronger networks of suppliers.
