Biman to resume Dhaka-Karachi direct flights from January 29
Biman Bangladesh Airlines will resume direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi starting 29 January, restoring nonstop air links between Bangladesh and Pakistan after more than a decade.
Officials familiar with the plan said the airline will initially operate two flights per week on a trial basis until 30 March 2026. Future frequency may increase depending on passenger demand and operational considerations.
The resumption comes after formal approval from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, which has authorized Biman to operate on the route and use designated air corridors within Pakistani airspace.
Currently, most travelers between the two countries rely on connecting flights through Middle Eastern hubs such as Dubai and Doha. The new direct service is expected to reduce travel time and costs, while promoting business, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
Biman representatives confirmed that discussions with Pakistani regulators had been ongoing for several months to reopen the route, which last operated in 2012.
The development coincides with improving bilateral relations, marked by recent diplomatic engagements and initiatives to strengthen trade and cooperation between Dhaka and Islamabad.
