Arab League Chief condemns Iranian attacks on neighboring states
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, strongly criticized Iran on Sunday, describing recent attacks on neighboring states as “irresponsible” and urging Tehran to reconsider what he called a major strategic mistake.
Speaking via videoconference during a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo, the Arab League chief said that the strikes represented a dangerous escalation in regional tensions. According to him, the actions cannot be justified under any circumstances and risk further destabilizing the Middle East.
The comments came as the conflict in the region entered its ninth day, raising concerns among Arab leaders about the potential consequences for regional security and diplomatic efforts. Aboul Gheit stressed that the attacks undermine initiatives aimed at promoting peace and stability in the Gulf.
He also warned that responding to diplomatic efforts with missiles and drones could worsen the crisis and deepen mistrust between countries in the region. Arab ministers, gathered for consultations, discussed possible diplomatic responses and the importance of avoiding further escalation.
The Arab League has repeatedly called for dialogue and respect for sovereignty among states, emphasizing that military actions could jeopardize fragile stability in the Middle East.
