Oullins-Pierre-Bénite chosen to host 2030 Winter Olympics ice cluster athletes' village
The athletes' village serving the ice sports cluster for the 2030 Winter Olympics will be built in Oullins-Pierre-Bénite, a municipality on the outskirts of Lyon, organizers have confirmed.
The decision establishes the suburban community as a key venue supporting the Games' operational infrastructure, while Lyon itself will not host the Olympic village for the ice disciplines.
Regional authorities confirm host location
The announcement was made jointly by the 2030 Winter Olympics Organising Committee, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Council, and the Lyon Metropolitan Authority.
The Olympic village will accommodate athletes competing in the Games' ice events, providing residential facilities close to the competition venues and supporting the logistical requirements of the multi-site Winter Olympics.
The project forms part of the broader infrastructure plan designed for the 2030 Games across southeastern France.
Lyon remains closely involved
Although Lyon was not selected as the site for the village itself, the nearby location of Oullins-Pierre-Bénite ensures the metropolitan area will continue to play an important role in hosting Olympic activities.
The choice reflects efforts by organizers to distribute infrastructure across the region while making use of existing transport connections and urban facilities.
Preparations continue for the 2030 Games
Planning for the 2030 Winter Olympics is progressing as organizers finalize the locations of key venues and support facilities.
The confirmation of the athletes' village represents another milestone in preparations for the Games, with regional authorities aiming to deliver infrastructure that meets Olympic requirements while leaving a lasting legacy for local communities after the event.
