Morocco has called for a renewed approach to its migration partnership with Europe, emphasizing that it should be regarded as a sovereign partner rather than a country solely responsible for protecting the European Union’s external borders. The statement comes amid renewed discussions on migration management following recent developments around the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.

Moroccan officials stressed that migration is a shared international challenge requiring balanced cooperation based on mutual respect, shared responsibilities, and long-term strategic planning. They argued that the current framework should evolve to reflect changing regional realities and the interests of all parties involved.

According to the Moroccan position, migration cannot be addressed through security measures alone. Authorities highlighted the importance of economic development, job creation, and social investment as the most sustainable ways to reduce irregular migration and improve opportunities for young people.
