Morocco launches $270 million tender for Grand Casablanca Stadium infrastructure

Morocco has taken another major step in the development of the Grand Casablanca Stadium by launching an international public tender for the external infrastructure surrounding the future sports complex. The project, valued at approximately MAD 2.68 billion (around USD 270 million), reflects the country's continued investment in world-class sporting facilities ahead of major international football events.

The tender covers a comprehensive package of infrastructure works designed to ensure the stadium's operational readiness and accessibility. Planned developments include new roads, access routes, intersections, public squares, pedestrian walkways, and technical corridors for utility networks. The project also includes drainage systems, water and electricity connections, telecommunications infrastructure, fiber-optic networks, landscaping, irrigation systems, public lighting, solar energy installations, and urban furniture.

Additional facilities dedicated to maintenance, operations, and security will be constructed to support the long-term management of the venue. The works will be supervised by Morocco's National Company for the Construction and Management of Sports Facilities (SONARGES), acting on behalf of the National Agency for Public Facilities.

Authorities have also incorporated local economic development objectives into the project. Contractors will be required to employ a minimum percentage of local workers and will be encouraged to prioritize construction materials manufactured in Morocco whenever they meet the required technical standards. Imported products will only be used when suitable domestic alternatives are unavailable.

The infrastructure contract follows an earlier procurement process for elevators and escalators, highlighting the steady progress of one of Morocco's largest sports construction projects. Once completed, the Grand Casablanca Stadium is expected to rank among Africa's most modern football venues, strengthening the country's ability to host prestigious international competitions.

The project forms part of Morocco's broader strategy to modernize its sports infrastructure, enhance transportation and urban development around major venues, and reinforce its position as a leading destination for global sporting events. Investment in large-scale facilities is also expected to generate employment opportunities and contribute to regional economic growth while supporting the country's long-term ambitions in international football.
