Morocco Prepares for AI Transformation with GenAI Summit 2024

Morocco is taking significant strides in transforming its economy through Artificial Intelligence (AI), with the GenAI Summit Maroc 2024 scheduled to take place at the Sofitel Rabat Jardin des Roses on December 10-11. The two-day event will bring together industry leaders, experts, and innovators to explore how AI can disrupt and transform key sectors such as healthcare, finance, education, and governance.

The summit is an integral part of Morocco’s broader ambition to enhance its digital capabilities under the Digital Morocco 2030 plan. The initiative aims to position the country at the forefront of technological and economic growth by leveraging AI as a key driver of innovation.

Rachid Baarbi, CIO-CDO of Assurances Lyazidi, emphasized the importance of the event, stating, "AI is a powerful tool for growth and innovation. This summit is an important step in Morocco’s digital ambitions."

Prominent speakers will include Mimoun Ouchaou, General Manager of IBM Morocco; Abdelaziz Benyahya, CTO at AXA; Aida Kandil, CEO of MyTindy and Women in Tech leader; Samia Jnini, Global Head of Generative AI at Atos; and Mohammed Yassir Zahraoui, CIO and Information Systems Director at MASEN. These thought leaders will share their insights on AI's potential and its role in Morocco’s digital evolution.

The event has formed partnerships with the Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P) as the knowledge partner and Women in Tech Morocco as the community partner. CollabConf, the event organizer, highlighted that these collaborations will ensure access to cutting-edge AI research and thought leadership, further supporting Morocco's ambitions for digital transformation.

In addition to presentations and discussions, the summit will feature networking sessions and showcases of the latest innovations from sponsors such as DXC Technologies, DELL, and Atos.

Morocco has already established itself as a leader in AI adoption in Africa. According to a Boston Consulting Group (BCG) survey, the country ranks among the highest globally for ChatGPT usage, with four out of five Moroccans familiar with the AI tool, and two in five actively using it. The country’s youthful, tech-savvy population has embraced AI in education, work, and daily life, using AI tools to solve real-life problems, improve productivity, and manage finances.

In global comparisons, Morocco outpaces many developed nations, including the United States, with India leading the way in ChatGPT adoption. As the world continues to grapple with the growing influence of AI, Morocco’s efforts to harness its power through events like the GenAI Summit underscore its commitment to shaping a future driven by innovation and digital transformation.
