Drone strike kills five in Russia's Moscow region, authorities say

At least five people were killed and six others injured in a drone attack on Russia's Moscow region, according to regional authorities, as aerial strikes continue to affect areas far from the front lines of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The incident occurred early Tuesday and prompted emergency responses after several fires broke out in an industrial area following the attack.

Industrial site hit during overnight strike

Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said Russian air defence systems had responded to a drone attack targeting the region.

According to preliminary information released by local authorities, the strike caused multiple fires in the industrial zone of Novoselki, including at a warehouse facility.

Emergency services were deployed to extinguish the fires and assist those affected.

Five dead and six injured

Vorobyov said the initial casualty toll stood at five fatalities and six injured, while warning that the figures could change as emergency crews continued operations at the site.

Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the identities of the victims or the full extent of the damage.

Cross-border drone attacks continue

The latest incident comes as Russia and Ukraine continue to exchange long-range drone and missile strikes alongside ongoing military operations.

Both countries have increasingly relied on unmanned aerial systems to target military, industrial and infrastructure sites, extending the impact of the conflict well beyond active battlefield areas.

The reported attack on the Moscow region highlights the continued security challenges facing both sides as aerial operations remain a central feature of the war.
