Türkiye-Belgium economic ties deepen during Queen Mathilde’s visit
The recent visit of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Queen Mathilde marked a significant step forward in economic and diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Belgium. The five-day Belgian Economic Mission brought together government officials, business leaders and industry representatives to strengthen cooperation across several strategic sectors.
The mission, organized at the invitation of the Turkish president, represented the first major Belgian diplomatic and trade delegation to Türkiye in more than a decade. Belgian authorities and Turkish officials emphasized the importance of maintaining strong economic partnerships at a time of regional and global uncertainty.
A large Belgian delegation composed of political leaders, investors and company representatives participated in meetings and forums held mainly in Istanbul. Discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade, increasing investment opportunities and developing joint projects in fields such as energy, transportation, healthcare, digital technology, defense and logistics.
During the visit, Turkish and Belgian officials signed several agreements aimed at encouraging commercial cooperation and facilitating long-term partnerships between companies from both countries. Business forums and networking sessions also allowed entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in emerging industries and infrastructure projects.
Turkish authorities highlighted the country’s strategic position connecting Europe, Asia and the Middle East, while Belgian representatives praised Türkiye’s industrial capabilities and growing role in regional trade and manufacturing. Both sides underlined the importance of improving economic integration between Türkiye and the European Union.
The delegation also visited major Turkish institutions and technology centers, including financial and defense facilities, where participants discussed innovation, advanced manufacturing and future investment prospects. Turkish companies showcased developments in aviation technology, unmanned systems and industrial modernization.
At the end of the mission, Belgian officials announced that approximately 40 new commercial agreements and business partnerships had been established. Observers view the visit as a positive signal for future cooperation and a reflection of the growing economic relationship between the two countries.
