Trump says Iran is “talking to us” amid rising tensions

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Iran is currently engaged in discussions with the United States, without providing details, as Tehran appears to favor diplomatic engagement amid growing concerns over possible military action.

Speaking to a journalist aboard Air Force One, Trump suggested that talks were ongoing but stressed that outcomes remained uncertain. He reiterated that a significant US military presence was moving toward the Middle East, a statement he has repeated several times in recent days.

The president also referred to past efforts to curb Iran’s nuclear program, hinting at previous actions taken by Washington when diplomatic negotiations failed. His remarks appeared to allude to US strikes carried out in mid-2025 against Iranian nuclear-related facilities, though he did not elaborate.

Trump said he could not share his strategic plans with allies in the Gulf region, citing security concerns. According to him, revealing such information could compromise operations and national interests.

In recent statements, the US president has maintained strategic ambiguity over a potential military response while claiming that Tehran is seeking an agreement on its nuclear activities. He has also said that an ultimatum had been delivered to Iranian leaders, increasing pressure on an already fragile regional situation.
