TotalEnergies workers go on strike in France over fuel prices
Service station employees at TotalEnergies have gone on strike across France to protest rising fuel prices and demand higher wages, according to union representatives.
The industrial action comes as workers argue that they are struggling to cope with increased living costs linked to higher fuel prices. The CGT trade union, which represents staff at nearly 200 TotalEnergies stations, has called on the company to provide financial relief and adjust salaries accordingly.
Union leader Sophie Binet stated that employees are facing mounting pressure without adequate support, and urged both the company and the government to take urgent action, including raising the minimum wage.
TotalEnergies, which operates a significant share of fuel stations in France, had previously announced measures to cap fuel prices in mainland France following a sharp rise in global oil prices driven by geopolitical tensions.
The strike is taking place during a busy travel period in France, as many families begin spring holiday journeys, increasing pressure on fuel distribution services.
The company has not yet issued an official response to the strike.
