Abderrahim Fakir Case: Initial Cardiac Exams Rule Out Pre-existing Conditions
The forensic investigation into the death of Abderrahim Fakir continues in Italy with new elements that could help clarify the circumstances of the tragedy. The initial examinations conducted on the heart of the 42-year-old Moroccan, who died on July 19 in Bologna during his arrest, found no pre-existing cardiac abnormalities, according to reports from the Italian news agency ANSA.
This preliminary conclusion comes as investigations focus on the exact causes of death. Initial findings from the autopsy had notably revealed the presence of blood in the lungs as well as significant injuries to the back, consistent with severe compression.
Forensic Conclusions Becoming Clearer
The absence of prior cardiac pathology constitutes a new element in the case examined by the Bologna prosecutor's office. The initial forensic findings had directed investigations towards the hypothesis of mechanical asphyxia related to back compression experienced during restraint.
Abderrahim Fakir had been pinned to the ground by two police officers at the time of his arrest. His lawyer, Fabio Anselmo, had previously mentioned a "violent mechanical asphyxia due to back compression," in light of the initial autopsy results.
However, several additional analyses are still necessary before the final conclusions are published. The results of toxicological and histological examinations are still awaited, and the final report of the expertise may take several more weeks.
Ongoing Investigation in Bologna
In parallel with the forensic investigations, the Bologna criminal brigade continues to examine the technical elements related to this case, particularly through the analysis of the victim's phone.
Thirty-nine days after Abderrahim Fakir's death, his body remains held in Italy as part of the judicial procedure. His family, based notably in Casablanca, is demanding his repatriation in order to organize his funeral.
Having arrived in Italy at the age of five, Abderrahim Fakir was 42 years old at the time of his death. The conclusions of the upcoming examinations are expected to be a significant step in precisely determining the causes and circumstances of his death.
