Agadir Enhances Its Security Measures with a New Regional Explosives Unit
The city of Agadir takes a significant step in strengthening its security capabilities. A regional explosives unit was officially deployed on Thursday, August 27, 2026, providing the police prefecture with a specialized unit dedicated to the prevention and management of risks related to explosives and suspicious objects.
Based within the command and coordination center of the Agadir police prefecture, this new structure becomes the eighth bomb disposal unit established by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) across the Kingdom, following operational units in Rabat, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier, Oujda, Marrakech, and Laayoune.
A Specialized Unit for Pyrotechnic Risks
The mission of this unit goes beyond emergency response. Its teams will also conduct preventive operations, particularly in areas likely to host large sporting, cultural, or social gatherings.
The detection and examination of suspicious objects, the analysis of potentially dangerous substances, and support for judicial investigations are also part of its intervention areas. The unit will thus provide technical expertise to police services faced with situations involving explosives or improvised explosive devices.
This establishment responds to a strategy of specialization within security services and the desire to improve response times on the ground.
Specialized Training and Advanced Equipment
The activation of the unit is accompanied by a specific training program designed for officers who will intervene in this sensitive area. Unit members have undergone several programs supervised by specialists from the central explosives service.
Their training initially focused on the fundamental principles related to the handling of explosive materials, followed by a second phase dedicated to the use of equipment and various intervention methods according to the scenarios encountered.
In terms of equipment, the unit has technical means suited to its missions. Its gear includes a specialized vehicle for transporting and deploying equipment, a light vehicle for operational movements, as well as computer and logistical tools.
The unit has also been equipped with a remote-controlled robot allowing for certain interventions from a distance, reinforced protective gear, and precision equipment intended for neutralization operations.
A Specialized Presence Set to Expand
The deployment of this unit is part of a broader dynamic of modernization and development of specialized structures within the DGSN. The objective is to gradually enhance territorial coverage and equip various police prefectures with competencies capable of addressing new security challenges.
Through this new establishment in Agadir, security authorities are betting on a combination of human expertise, technical training, and specialized technologies to improve prevention and intervention capabilities against threats related to explosives.
