Lamhiriz: Fishing Landings Surge by 54% by the End of July 2026

The port of Lamhiriz has seen significant growth in coastal and artisanal fishing activities. By the end of July 2026, landings reached 1,584 tons, representing a 54% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data from the National Fisheries Office (ONP).

This development is accompanied by an even more pronounced increase in the value of landed products. Revenue generated exceeded 41.30 million dirhams, compared to over 19.75 million dirhams at the end of July 2025. The growth thus reaches 109% year-on-year.

The dynamic observed at the port of Lamhiriz is primarily driven by a significant rise in landings of cephalopods. Volumes of this category reached 927 tons, compared to 158 tons a year earlier, marking an increase of 487%. In value, revenues related to cephalopods grew by 334%, surpassing 23.97 million dirhams.

Crustaceans also contributed to this performance. Their landings increased by 63% to reach 117 tons, while their commercial value rose by 51%, generating over 9.79 million dirhams.

Conversely, some product categories recorded a decline in volumes. Landings of pelagic fish dropped by 74%, falling from 68 tons to 18 tons. Their value also decreased by 65%, settling at approximately 141,000 dirhams.

White fish also experienced a volume decline. Landings fell by 29% to 523 tons, down from 731 tons at the end of July 2025. However, their value remained nearly stable, recording a slight increase of 1% to exceed 7.39 million dirhams.

At the national level, coastal and artisanal fishing also showed positive development during the first seven months of 2026. Marketed landings reached 551,547 tons, a 5% increase year-on-year. Their value, for its part, rose by 2%, exceeding 6.28 billion dirhams.

The results recorded at Lamhiriz thus illustrate a particularly strong increase in the value of fishing activities, primarily driven by cephalopods and, to a lesser extent, by crustaceans.
