Tencent integrates WeChat with OpenClaw AI agent amid China tech battle
China’s tech giant Tencent has launched a new tool integrating its popular messaging platform WeChat with the open-source AI agent OpenClaw. Named ClawBot, the feature appears as a contact within WeChat, enabling users—over 1 billion monthly active—to interact directly with the AI.
Through ClawBot, users can send commands and receive responses using WeChat’s messaging interface, making it easier to perform tasks such as sending emails, transferring files, or other functions supported by OpenClaw. The integration marks Tencent’s deepening involvement in AI agents, a field that has become highly competitive among Chinese technology firms.
Earlier this month, Tencent also launched its own AI agent suite, including QClaw for individual users, Lighthouse for developers, and WorkBuddy for enterprises. The move reflects the growing demand for AI tools in China, even as authorities continue to caution companies about security and data privacy risks.
With ClawBot, Tencent aims to position WeChat not just as a communication platform but as a hub for AI-driven productivity and user engagement, signaling intensifying competition in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
