RFI launches Armenian-language service ahead of legislative elections to combat disinformation

Radio France Internationale (RFI) has launched a new Armenian-language digital service aimed at young audiences, ahead of upcoming legislative elections in June, as part of efforts to combat misinformation.

The initiative is fully digital and distributed across social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. It focuses on short video content and interactive, educational formats designed to engage younger users and improve access to reliable information.

The project is part of a broader “Information Shield” initiative led by France Médias Monde in cooperation with Germany’s Deutsche Welle, aiming to strengthen information integrity in regions vulnerable to disinformation.

Radio France Internationale has become the 17th language service of the broadcaster, expanding its multilingual reach. The Armenian editorial team is based in Issy-les-Moulineaux, near Paris, and includes Armenian-speaking journalists recruited specifically for the project, supported by correspondents located in Armenia.

According to France Médias Monde, the content will cover topics ranging from the daily lives of young Armenians to regional, European, and global issues. The initiative also aims to counter coordinated disinformation campaigns affecting Armenia, a country that maintains increasing attention toward European Union relations.

Officials emphasize that the service seeks to reinforce trustworthy journalism and strengthen democratic resilience ahead of key elections.
