Saudi Arabia warns Iran against attacks, signals potential retaliation

Saudi Arabia has reportedly warned Iran that any further attacks on the kingdom or its energy infrastructure could prompt a forceful response, even as Riyadh expresses support for a diplomatic resolution to ongoing tensions between Tehran and the United States.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Saudi officials conveyed the warning ahead of a public statement by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in which he apologized to Gulf states for Tehran’s recent actions, an effort to ease regional tensions after strikes on civilian targets.

Two days prior, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan reportedly spoke directly with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to communicate Riyadh’s position. The minister emphasized that Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states have not allowed U.S. forces to use their territory or airspace for attacks on Iran, underscoring their preference for a negotiated settlement.

However, the Saudi minister made it clear that persistent Iranian strikes on the kingdom’s territory or energy facilities could compel Riyadh to permit U.S. forces to operate from its bases. The statement also highlighted that Saudi Arabia is prepared to retaliate if its critical energy infrastructure continues to be targeted.

Analysts note that the exchange reflects growing regional anxieties as Gulf states seek to balance diplomacy with the protection of their vital energy assets. Both sides appear to be signaling restraint while preparing contingencies in case hostilities escalate further.
