New Morocco-Saudi shipping line to boost trade and cut transit time
A planned direct shipping line between Morocco and Saudi Arabia is set to revolutionize trade relations, benefiting over 100 Moroccan exporters by significantly reducing transit times and increasing market access. The initiative seeks to deepen bilateral trade ties and enhance economic cooperation between the two nations.
Khalid Benjelloun, president of the Moroccan-Saudi Business Council, highlighted that the shipping line will cut transit times for goods from four weeks to just four days. This advancement will make Moroccan products, including fresh food, automobiles, sugar, and textiles, more competitive in the Saudi market.
Economic relations between Morocco and Saudi Arabia have grown steadily in recent years, marked by increasing trade volumes and collaborative investments. The proposed shipping line represents a strategic move to strengthen these ties, despite initial forecasts suggesting limited profitability during its early years of operation. Benjelloun emphasized the long-term benefits for businesses and bilateral trade.
Feasibility studies for the project are expected to conclude by the end of 2025, paving the way for the operational phase. The shipping line will provide Moroccan exporters with a reliable, efficient route to Saudi Arabia, opening the door to expanded opportunities in the Gulf region.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts by Morocco and Saudi Arabia to enhance cooperation across key economic and trade sectors, driving mutual growth and regional development.
