Morocco-France: Air Traffic Reaches 5.9 Million Passengers in Seven Months
Morocco confirms its status as the leading Maghreb destination for air travel to France. With 5.9 million passengers recorded between January and July 2026, the Kingdom shows a 6% increase, far ahead of Algeria and Tunisia. French bookings for the summer further bolster this trend.
Morocco Expands the Gap in Air Traffic
French air transport statistics highlight a favorable trend for Morocco. Between January and July 2026, 5.9 million passengers traveled on routes between France and the Kingdom, according to data from the French Ministry of Transport reported by the Algerian press.
This volume represents an increase of 6% year-on-year. Morocco thus clearly outpaces the other two major Maghreb destinations tracked in these statistics.
During the same period, routes between France and Algeria totaled 3.3 million passengers, a decrease of 1%. Tunisia recorded 2.7 million passengers, an increase of 4.6%.
The differential is significant: Franco-Moroccan traffic exceeds that observed with Algeria by 2.6 million passengers and with Tunisia by 3.2 million.
Nearly Half of Maghreb Traffic
Taken together, the three markets represent approximately 11.9 million passengers in the first seven months of the year.
With its 5.9 million travelers, Morocco accounts for nearly 49.6% of this air traffic between France and the three Maghreb countries.
This proportion provides another measure of the weight of the Moroccan market. Alone, the Kingdom generates almost as many air travels to France as Algeria and Tunisia combined.
However, these data must be interpreted with precision. They account for passengers on air routes and do not solely identify French tourists. They also include family visits, business trips, and movements related to communities settled on both sides of the Mediterranean.
Summer Bookings Confirm the Trend
Another indicator allows for a more direct measurement of the evolution of tourist demand.
According to data reported in July by the Visa Algeria website, French bookings to Morocco for July and August increased by 4.5% compared to the same period in 2025.
The trend was different for Tunisia, where bookings decreased by 7.1%.
However, Morocco did not hold the same position in the ranking of the most booked destinations. It ranked sixth, behind mainland France, Spain, and Greece, while Tunisia was in fourth place.
The interest of these figures lies less in an absolute ranking than in their evolution: French demand for Morocco continued to grow, while it contracted for Tunisia in the same survey.
Two Indicators That Reflect the Same Dynamic
Air traffic statistics and booking figures do not measure the same reality. The former cover movements actually recorded between January and July, while the latter relate to travel intentions for the summer period.
It would therefore be incorrect to add them together or consider them equivalent.
However, their juxtaposition provides interesting insight into the air relationship between France and Morocco. On one hand, traffic shows several million passengers and sustained annual growth. On the other, French bookings for the high season are also on the rise.
A Strengthened Position in the French Market
For Morocco, these results reflect a solid demand in one of its main international markets.
The 6% increase in Franco-Moroccan traffic occurs even though the comparison base is already high. The growth in summer bookings simultaneously suggests that interest in the destination remains well-oriented.
Finally, the figures reported by the Algerian press give a particular dimension to this evolution. While they do not constitute a qualitative assessment of the Moroccan tourism sector in themselves, they highlight a measurable reality: in air links with France, Morocco maintains a significant lead over Algeria and Tunisia in 2026.
