National Theater Festival: Moroccan Troops Granted Extra Time to Apply

The schedule for the 26th edition of the National Theater Festival has been extended. Moroccan companies wishing to participate in the upcoming competition now have a few extra days to finalize their applications. The event is set for October in Tétouan, with several national awards at stake.

The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, Department of Culture, announced the extension of the application deadline to Friday, September 11, 2026. The closure was initially scheduled for September 4.

This extension responds to requests made by several theater groups, who emphasized the need for more time to prepare their applications and meet the participation requirements.

An Anticipated Edition in Tétouan in October

The 26th edition of the National Theater Festival will take place from October 16 to 23, 2026 in Tétouan. Organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the event is one of the main gatherings dedicated to Moroccan theatrical creation.

The call for applications is aimed at Moroccan troupes presenting works intended for an adult audience. The productions must have been produced between the 25th and 26th editions of the festival.

With this new timeline, companies now have additional leeway to complete their procedures before the review of applications.

Multiple Awards to Recognize Theatrical Creation

Beyond the selection of performances, the official competition will highlight various professions and expressions from the stage. The selected works will compete for the National Theater Award across several categories related to writing, directing, and set design.

Costumes and the performances of actresses and actors are also among the areas that may be rewarded. The awards will also include the Rising Star Award and the Grand Prize, offering participating artists and teams several opportunities for recognition.

This new edition is set to be a highlight for Moroccan companies, in a context where the extension of the deadline allows more projects to be presented under favorable conditions.

A Meeting Point for the Moroccan Scene

By granting a few extra days to the troupes, the organizers are responding to a request from the professional community while maintaining the festival's schedule. The next step will now be the closure of applications on September 11, before the selection of performances to be included in the official competition.
