Morocco and Italy deepen economic ties with new chamber of commerce launch
The Moroccan Chamber of Commerce in Italy (CCMI) is set to officially launch on November 19 with a ceremony at the Senate of the Republic in Rome, marking a key milestone in strengthening economic relations between Morocco and Italy.
Launch event to foster bilateral cooperation
The inauguration will take place in the Sala Caduti di Nassirya at Palazzo Madama from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., followed by an Economic Congress at Palazzo Santa Chiara from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. The event will bring together institutional, diplomatic, and business representatives from both nations, aiming to boost bilateral cooperation and open new avenues for investment.
According to Marouan El Mansoub, President of the CCMI, “The creation of the CCMI represents a strategic platform for consolidating economic relations and creating a lasting bridge between the Moroccan and Italian business communities.”
The CCMI will serve as a hub for businesses seeking to develop commercial synergies, investments, and collaborative projects across sectors such as industry, tourism, renewable energy, innovation, and agri-food.
A growing economic alliance
Headquartered in Modena, with two operational offices in Rome, the CCMI’s leadership team comprises professionals and a Board of Directors drawn from prominent business and institutional figures. The chamber’s creation comes as economic ties between Morocco and Italy continue to grow rapidly.
Trade between the two countries surged to approximately €5 billion in 2024, up from €2.75 billion in 2020. Italian exports to Morocco, valued at around €3 billion, include refined petroleum, machinery, and electronics, while Moroccan exports to Italy, exceeding €2 billion, focus on cars, fertilizers, electrical wiring, and agri-food products.
Italian investments in Morocco have also seen significant growth. Notably, Italy’s export credit agency SACE provided a €365 million green financing package in 2025 to support OCP Group’s sustainable industrial projects. Automotive giant Stellantis has shifted part of its production to Morocco, leveraging the country’s growing car manufacturing sector.
Strategic cooperation for sustainable development
The Morocco-Italy partnership has been reinforced through government agreements, including a July 2023 Action Plan establishing a “multidimensional strategic partnership” in economic, energy, and sustainable development sectors. Italy views Morocco as a gateway to Africa and a key partner for achieving EU decarbonization goals under its Mattei Plan for Africa.
Italian companies have identified opportunities across Morocco’s infrastructure, energy, automotive, and digital sectors, further aligning with shared goals for sustainable development and economic growth.
Strengthening trade and investment opportunities
The CCMI’s launch is expected to ease trade flows, attract new investments, and foster joint ventures between the two nations. Companies attending the November 19 event will have the chance to connect with Moroccan institutions, network with professionals, and explore specific opportunities for collaboration and growth.
This initiative underscores the evolving economic partnership between Morocco and Italy and highlights both nations’ commitment to deepening ties across the Mediterranean.
