Ukraine: Russian drone strike leaves at least 37 dead near Kiev
At least 37 people have lost their lives in an overnight attack on a warehouse located in the Bucha district, near Kiev. This toll, which may still change, once again highlights the ongoing violence of Russian strikes against Ukrainian territory.
Another deadly night in Ukraine. A strike attributed to Russia hit a warehouse in the Kiev region, causing a significant explosion followed by several detonations. According to regional authorities, at least 37 people have been killed.
The toll reported on Saturday by Timur Tkachenko, head of the military administration of the Kiev region, has risen sharply compared to the initial information available just a few hours earlier. The official initially reported 27 victims before raising the figure to 37.
An explosion followed by detonations
The attack is believed to have been carried out using drones during the night. The targeted site, located in the Bucha district, was heavily damaged by the force of the explosion.
The secondary detonations complicated operations on the ground and underscore the ongoing danger of sites hit by strikes, especially when they contain materials that could cause further explosions.
Rescue teams have been mobilized to search for potential victims and assist those affected. Ukrainian authorities have not ruled out further changes to the toll.
Kiev region targeted again
This attack comes as Ukrainian infrastructure and urban areas remain regularly exposed to Russian bombings and drone attacks.
The Kiev region, despite its relative distance from some front lines, continues to be regularly targeted by Russian air operations. These attacks pose a constant threat to civilian populations and economic infrastructure.
The Bucha district is also strongly associated with the violence committed at the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion in 2022. More than four years after the start of this offensive, the war continues to cause heavy human losses, even in areas far from the front.
A toll that could still evolve
With 37 dead reported on Saturday, this strike ranks among the particularly deadly attacks recorded recently in the Kiev region.
Authorities continue rescue operations and damage assessments. In a context where drone attacks are multiplying and where civilian and industrial infrastructure are regularly exposed, the human toll could still evolve in the coming hours.
