Morocco unveils collaborative blueprint for 2026-2030 tourism growth

The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) has initiated a nationwide consultation with industry stakeholders to shape its tourism strategy for 2026-2030. This ambitious plan seeks to reinforce Morocco’s position on the global tourism map by fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainability.

A roadmap for global competitiveness

Launched in Mohammedia, the initiative is a cornerstone of ONMT’s roadmap for the next five years. It aims to align strategic planning with practical realities to address the evolving dynamics of global tourism. According to ONMT Director General Achraf Fayda, the consultation will allow Morocco to transition from being a strong tourism destination to becoming a more influential player capable of thriving in competitive markets worldwide.

“Through this consultation, we aim to move Morocco from being a strong destination to one that is even more influential, capable of competing in the most competitive markets worldwide,” Fayda said.

Four pillars of transformation

The strategy centers on four fundamental pillars: air transport, distribution, image, and digitalization. These areas will drive targeted programs focused on diversifying source markets, crafting compelling narratives to promote Morocco’s allure, and implementing global marketing campaigns aimed at boosting international visibility.

Key stakeholders, including regional operators and industry professionals, are heavily involved in these discussions to ensure inclusivity and practicality. Hamid Bentahar, President of the National Tourism Confederation, highlighted the collective effort, stating, “This consultation signifies a robust collective dynamic. In conjunction with industry professionals, we aim to elevate Morocco’s tourism sector, progressing from co-construction to co-development and hastening growth.”

Bold ambitions for 2030

The ONMT’s ultimate goal is to position Morocco among the world’s top 15 tourist destinations by 2030. The country aims to welcome over 26 million visitors annually while maintaining high levels of tourist satisfaction. To achieve this, the Office plans to implement policies that prioritize market diversification, tech integration, and sustainable development while respecting the needs of local communities and the environment.

Next steps

The insights gathered from this national consultation will soon be translated into actionable programs. These initiatives will focus on enhancing air connectivity, strengthening distribution networks, and leveraging digital tools to elevate Morocco’s global tourism standing.

This significant move underscores Morocco’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration within the tourism sector, setting the stage for a sustainable and competitive future.
