White House celebrates Marco Rubio with SpongeBob-inspired Labor Day meme

The White House marked Labor Day with a playful social media post featuring Secretary of State Marco Rubio, using a popular SpongeBob SquarePants scene to highlight the number of government responsibilities he has taken on under President Donald Trump.

The official White House account on X shared a meme inspired by an episode of the animated series featuring the Krusty Krab’s employee-of-the-month display. In the White House version, the usual image of SpongeBob was replaced by dozens of photographs of Rubio.

The post was accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek message praising Rubio for the various positions he has held, ending with a Labor Day greeting.

The joke refers to Rubio's expanded role within the Trump administration. In addition to serving as secretary of state, he has also been placed in charge of other federal responsibilities during the president's second term.

Rubio has served as the administration's top diplomat while also overseeing the US Agency for International Development and taking on temporary responsibilities related to the National Archives.
