Morocco strengthens its appeal among French motorhome travellers
Morocco is continuing to establish itself as a leading winter destination for French motorhome enthusiasts seeking sunshine, freedom and a change of scenery. The country’s growing popularity among this group has been highlighted by Le Monde du Camping-Car, which recently featured the experiences of eight travellers who explored Morocco by motorhome.
The specialist magazine described Morocco as an increasingly attractive destination for mobile travellers, particularly during the European winter. Its appeal lies in a combination of mild weather, varied landscapes, cultural richness and opportunities to discover the country at an independent pace.
Morocco’s geographical proximity to Europe is another major advantage. Regular maritime connections allow French travellers to reach the kingdom with their vehicles while enjoying a significant change in climate and environment. Once there, visitors can travel between the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts, the Atlas Mountains and the southern regions, offering a wide range of landscapes within a single journey.
The climate is particularly important for travellers escaping the colder European winter. Morocco provides more moderate temperatures, allowing motorhome tourists to stay for several weeks or even months while travelling through different parts of the country.
The destination also benefits from what many visitors consider a favourable balance between travel costs and the overall experience. Hospitality, cultural diversity and the possibility of discovering less conventional tourist destinations further contribute to Morocco’s reputation among motorhome travellers.
According to Patrick Laplanche, president of the French federation of motorhome associations and clubs, between 10,000 and 12,000 French motorhome travellers visit Morocco every year. He particularly highlighted the welcome they receive and the diversity of destinations available across the country.
The growth of this tourism segment is also supported by an expanding network of campsites and designated motorhome areas. Specialist guides list hundreds of facilities across Morocco, while dedicated itineraries make it easier for travellers to explore different regions at their own pace.
Beyond its tourism value, motorhome travel represents an economic opportunity for local businesses. These visitors generally remain in the country longer than tourists staying in conventional short-term accommodation and spend money across several destinations during their journeys.
With its favourable climate, diverse landscapes, cultural heritage and improving infrastructure for mobile tourism, Morocco is strengthening its position as a preferred winter destination for French motorhome travellers and as an increasingly important market for this form of tourism.
