Abdellatif Jouahri ranks among the world’s top 25 central bank governors
Abdellatif Jouahri, Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib, has been named among the world’s 25 highest-rated central bank governors for 2026 by US financial magazine Global Finance, highlighting Morocco’s monetary authority on the international stage.
Jouahri received an A- grade in the magazine’s annual Central Banker Report Cards, which evaluates central bank leaders across nearly 100 countries, territories and monetary unions. He was the only governor from North Africa to appear on this year’s list.
Global Finance has published its central bank governor rankings annually since 1994. The assessment uses a grading scale ranging from A+ to F and focuses on several key areas of monetary policy and economic management.
Among the criteria considered are the ability to control inflation, support economic growth, maintain monetary stability, manage interest rates effectively and preserve the independence of the central bank.
Jouahri’s inclusion reflects the international attention given to Morocco’s monetary policy framework and the role played by Bank Al-Maghrib in maintaining financial and monetary stability. Central banks have faced particularly complex challenges in recent years as policymakers have had to balance inflationary pressures with economic growth and changing global financial conditions.
The recognition also comes as Morocco continues to strengthen its position within the international financial system. Bank Al-Maghrib plays a central role in managing the country’s monetary policy, overseeing the banking sector and contributing to the stability of the national financial system.
Global Finance’s assessment places particular emphasis on the performance of central bank leaders rather than simply the economic size of their countries. The ranking is therefore intended to compare policymakers according to their handling of monetary and economic challenges.
Jouahri has served as Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib for several years and has become a prominent figure in Morocco’s economic policy landscape. His latest recognition gives further international visibility to the Moroccan central bank at a time when monetary policy remains a key factor for economies worldwide.
The 2026 ranking consequently places Morocco among the countries whose central bank leadership has received strong international recognition, with Jouahri’s A- rating underlining the assessment of his performance in monetary and financial policy.
