Mounia Amor unveils "The Reverse of Forms" in Casablanca

The Moroccan contemporary art scene is set to welcome a new exhibition dedicated to the work of painter Mounia Amor Cheikh Lahlou. Titled "The Reverse of Forms", this solo presentation will be held at So.art Gallery in Casablanca, with an opening scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2026, starting at 6:30 PM.

A few years after "Amber and Light," already presented in the same gallery, the artist returns with a series of unpublished works that deepens her exploration of abstraction, light, and the invisible mechanisms that influence our perception.

An Abstraction Thought of as a Space for Research

With The Reverse of Forms, Mounia Amor does not reduce abstraction to a mere aesthetic game. Her compositions rely on a precise organization of lines, volumes, and spaces, giving rise to works where the plastic construction becomes a true ground for reflection.

The series notably plays on the relationship between stability and movement. The backgrounds, composed of vertical stripes or colored surfaces in subtle shades, create a deliberately calming atmosphere. More assertive shapes then disrupt this tranquility, some appearing sharp while others seem almost transparent.

This confrontation creates pictorial spaces in perpetual transformation. The elements can evoke both fragments of memory and architectural structures or particles floating in space. The work thus becomes a place where order and disorder, presence and erasure meet.

Light at the Heart of the Pictorial Language

Light constitutes one of the major axes of this new research. In the works referred to as "Radiance," "Eclipse," or "Ascension," it is not merely an element intended to reveal forms. It becomes an artistic material in itself and a question of what remains visible or invisible.

This approach gives the series a meditative dimension. The artist is less interested in reproducing the observable world than in the immaterial forces capable of organizing our perception of it.

Between Geometry, Intuition, and Movement

The exhibition also rests on a search for balance. However, this is never presented as a definitive situation. It is constructed in a permanent movement, through the confrontation between mastery and spontaneity, density and lightness, geometry and intuition.

Each component of the canvas thus participates in a larger whole, without the work losing its unstable character. This tension constitutes one of the driving forces of Mounia Amor's approach and helps to give her compositions a unique identity.

An Invitation to Look Differently

Through this new series, Mounia Amor develops an abstraction that is both intellectual, poetic, and open to a more cosmic dimension. Her work does not seek to break with the real but rather to suggest what lies behind its immediate appearance.

Painting then becomes a means of organizing tensions without suppressing them and of bringing forth a form of inner light. The viewer is invited to take the time to observe, feel, and interpret rather than seek an immediately identifiable representation.
