Morocco Reaches Record Zucchini Exports to Switzerland

Morocco has achieved a new record in its zucchini exports to Switzerland, with a 25% increase compared to the previous season. This upward trend reflects the country's strong potential to expand further in this European market.

According to recent agricultural trade data, Morocco's zucchini exports to Switzerland surpassed 1,000 tons this season, marking the highest volume ever recorded. Over the past four marketing seasons, the average annual growth rate has exceeded 40%, underlining a consistent expansion pattern.

Switzerland has emerged as one of the top seven destinations for Moroccan zucchini, despite its current import volume being lower than that of other European markets. However, the sharp growth signals promising prospects for further market penetration.

The export season typically runs from October to May, with peak shipments occurring between January and March, aligning with Switzerland’s highest demand period for zucchini imports.

The rise in Moroccan exports to Switzerland has been attributed to favorable weather conditions, improved logistics, supportive trade agreements, and a growing Swiss demand for fresh vegetables.

Morocco’s strategic location continues to offer a competitive edge, especially if the country keeps investing in product quality and supply chain efficiency. Still, strong competition from Spain and Italy remains a significant challenge, making innovation and strategic planning essential for sustained growth.

Currently, Spain dominates Switzerland’s zucchini import market, supplying over 75% of total imports this season. Italy has also steadily increased its export volume. Nevertheless, Morocco’s market share has grown significantly—from 2.3% in the 2021/2022 season to 5.8% in the 2024/2025 season.

Additionally, Morocco has also broken records in tomato exports to Norway this season, further strengthening its presence in European fresh produce markets.
