Morocco launches livestock verification drive ahead of second subsidy payment
Morocco's Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests has announced the launch of a nationwide verification operation for the country's livestock reconstitution program, effective Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The operation follows directives from King Mohammed VI and targets the maintenance of female breeding sheep and goats across all regions of the kingdom.
The animals in question were registered during a census conducted between June 26 and August 11, 2025, and individually identified through ear-tagging. The current verification phase will confirm that the registered females have been retained by their owners in line with program requirements.
The operation is being conducted in coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, through local commissions deployed across all prefectures and provinces. Authorities will draw on data collected during the national livestock census and the earlier identification exercise.
Once the verification of retained females is complete, the second tranche of direct financial aid will be disbursed as quickly as possible through the same payment channels used for the first installment. The ministry stated that the release of this second payment will mark the full completion of the program and its associated subsidy operation.
The ministry called on all farmers and livestock breeders concerned to participate fully and mobilize in support of the operation's success.
