Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni honored at Africa Next Awards in Paris for digital transformation
Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, has been honored in Paris with an African Excellence Award recognizing her work in artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty and public-sector innovation.
The award was presented on Thursday evening as part of the Africa Next Awards 2026, an initiative highlighting prominent African figures whose work contributes to the continent’s development and transformation.
Organizers said Seghrouchni was recognized for her contribution to Morocco’s digital transition, the modernization of public administration and the development of artificial intelligence. The distinction also reflects the growing importance of digital technologies in improving public services and strengthening administrative efficiency across Africa.
Speaking to Morocco’s official news agency, Seghrouchni welcomed the recognition, describing it as an acknowledgment of the progress Morocco has made in digital transformation and administrative reform. She also said the award represented broader recognition for African figures contributing to development in different fields.
The minister highlighted initiatives targeting young people and expanding digital access, as well as Morocco’s efforts to strengthen connectivity and develop digital infrastructure, particularly in rural areas. These measures are intended to reduce the digital divide and enable wider access to emerging technologies.
Morocco has increasingly placed digital transformation at the center of its public-sector modernization strategy. The government has sought to combine administrative reform with technological development in an effort to improve the quality of public services, increase efficiency and make institutions more accessible to citizens and businesses.
Artificial intelligence has also become an increasingly important element of this strategy, with governments across Africa exploring ways to use digital technologies to modernize public administration while addressing issues related to data governance, technological sovereignty and responsible innovation.
The Moroccan ministry said the award reflects a broader reform agenda aimed at accelerating the transformation of public administration. Its approach emphasizes the integration of digital transition and administrative reform as complementary tools for improving the country’s administrative model and strengthening the delivery of public services.
The Africa Next Awards 2026 have therefore placed Morocco’s digital transformation efforts in a wider continental context, highlighting the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty, public innovation and administrative modernization.
Seghrouchni’s recognition also comes as Morocco seeks to reinforce its position as a regional digital hub and expand technological access across the country, including in areas where connectivity and access to digital services remain more limited.
