Moroccan Culinary Teams Set to Compete at Prestigious Sirha Lyon 2025
Morocco's finest culinary talents are preparing to make their mark at three distinguished international cooking competitions during the upcoming Sirha exhibition in Lyon, France, scheduled for January 23-27, 2025.
The nation earned its place in these elite competitions through outstanding performances at the TOC Africa selections in Marrakech during September 2024. The Moroccan teams will participate in the Bocuse d'Or, the Pastry World Cup, and the Supplier World Cup, representing North African culinary excellence on the global stage.
In the highly regarded Bocuse d'Or, Chef Yassine Bogdad will lead Morocco's efforts, supported by Youssef Lamghani and guided by coach Ahmed Bem Semlali. The team secured their position by claiming first place in the Bocuse d'Or Africa competition in Marrakech. They will compete against 23 other nations, presenting dishes that skillfully blend Morocco's rich culinary heritage with international gastronomic standards.
The pastry division showcases a talented quartet: Rachid Ouakkas heads the team, accompanied by Omar Eddib focusing on sweet creations, Mohamed El Yazidi specializing in chocolate work, and Mohamed Lamraoui crafting frozen desserts. Their challenge centers on the theme "National Heritage," where they will create artistic pieces that harmonize traditional Moroccan flavors with contemporary techniques. The Pastry World Cup, established in 1989, will feature 18 qualified nations in this year's final.
Completing Morocco's presence at Sirha Lyon, the Supplier World Cup will bring together 12 elite teams from across five continents. This competition emphasizes innovation, sustainability, and exceptional presentation in gastronomy.
These prestigious competitions offer a significant platform for Morocco's culinary professionals to demonstrate their expertise and share their nation's distinctive gastronomic traditions with an international audience. Their participation represents both a celebration of Morocco's rich food culture and its growing influence in the global culinary landscape.
