Canadian finance minister emphasizes supply chain integrity in China meeting
Canada’s Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne met with Chinese officials on Friday to discuss trade and financial cooperation, highlighting the importance of supply chain integrity. The discussions focused on the financial services sector, as well as trade in energy and pork, with the goal of increasing Canada’s exports to China by 50% by 2030.
“Canada puts a lot of importance on supply chain integrity and that our bilateral trade needs to be conducted in accordance with international standards,” Champagne told reporters. The meeting comes amid U.S. scrutiny over labor rights, including ongoing investigations into unfair trade practices.
China remains Canada’s second-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade totaling roughly C$120 billion ($86.1 billion). Both sides agreed to hold high-level economic and financial dialogues in the second half of the year to strengthen cooperation.
