Apple releases urgent security update for iPhone and iPad users

Apple has released an urgent security update for iPhone and iPad devices to address a vulnerability in its CoreGraphics component that could allow attackers to execute malicious code through specially crafted files.

The security flaw affects image and graphics processing and is addressed in iOS 26.7.1 for compatible iPhone models, including the iPhone 11 and newer devices running earlier versions of iOS. Apple said the vulnerability may have been exploited in a highly sophisticated attack targeting specific individuals.

The company did not disclose further details about the attacks or the people targeted. However, the warning highlights the importance of installing the update promptly, particularly for users who may face targeted cyber threats.

Apple has also released iPadOS 26.7.1 for several iPad models, including selected iPad Pro, iPad Air, standard iPad and iPad mini devices. Users can install the update through the Software Update section under Settings.

The company recommends keeping devices connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network and ensuring that important data is backed up before installing major software updates.

Separately, Apple has issued iOS 27.0.1 for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to address software problems reported following the launch of the latest devices. The update includes fixes for unexpected restarts linked to Face ID authentication failures, abnormal camera colors under certain conditions when using 2x zoom, and touchscreen responsiveness issues involving the Notification Center and Control Center.

The security release underlines the need for users to keep their Apple devices updated, as vulnerabilities affecting widely used system components can potentially be exploited before broader technical details become publicly available.
