Ferran Torres leaves Spain camp with ankle injury ahead of Nations League matches
Ferran Torres has left the Spain national team camp after suffering persistent pain in his left ankle, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced Friday.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward will return to France for further medical examinations and treatment after the discomfort continued for several days. The federation said the decision was taken to give priority to the player's recovery rather than risk aggravating the problem during the international break.
Torres had been included in Spain's squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against the Czech Republic and Croatia. His withdrawal leaves the national team without one of its key attacking options as the European champions prepare for their next two matches.
Carlos Espi called up as replacement
The RFEF has selected Real Madrid youngster Carlos Espi to take Torres' place in the squad. The young forward is now set to join the senior team for the two Nations League encounters.
Torres' departure comes after a strong start to the season with Paris Saint-Germain. The 26-year-old has already scored four goals for the French club and arrived at the international camp in good attacking form.
His recent international record has also given his absence added significance. Torres scored the decisive goal in the final of the 2026 World Cup this summer, helping Spain secure the title.
Medical coordination between Spain and PSG
The RFEF said there had been continuous communication between its medical staff and those at Paris Saint-Germain throughout the international break.
According to the federation, the two medical teams have remained in regular contact since the beginning of the national-team gathering, helping coordinate the decision regarding Torres' condition.
The forward will now return to France, where he is expected to undergo additional tests to determine the extent of the ankle problem and establish the appropriate recovery plan.
For Spain, the immediate challenge will be to reorganize its attack ahead of the Nations League fixtures, while PSG will monitor Torres' condition as the club prepares for the continuation of its domestic and European schedule.
