Argentina sets investment-based citizenship options starting at $350,000
Argentina is preparing to launch a citizenship-by-investment program that will allow eligible foreign investors to apply for Argentine nationality through two investment routes starting at $350,000.
The Ministry of Economy announced on October 2 that the program is expected to begin accepting applications during the fourth quarter of 2026. Applicants will be able to choose between making a non-refundable contribution of $350,000 to the national Treasury or subscribing to a government security specifically created for the program with a value of $800,000.
The scheme also allows spouses and children of the main applicant to apply under specific contribution requirements. According to the government, a typical family consisting of the main applicant, a spouse and two minor children could obtain citizenship through a combined contribution of $500,000.
Applications will be subject to financial and security checks. Authorities will examine the legal origin of the funds and conduct assessments related to financial transparency, criminal records and potential risks to national security or interests. The program is designed to operate through Argentina's formal financial system and follow anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism financing standards.
The investment-based citizenship framework was established through changes to Argentina's citizenship legislation in 2025. The government created a dedicated Agency for Investment Citizenship Programs to receive applications, assess qualifying investments and make recommendations to the National Migration Directorate.
Under the procedure established by the government, the agency can request information from several state bodies before recommending approval or rejection. The National Migration Directorate then makes the final decision within the framework established by the regulations.
The initiative forms part of President Javier Milei's broader efforts to attract foreign capital and promote investment in Argentina. The government has presented the program as a mechanism to channel additional funds into the country while applying financial transparency and security safeguards.
The program is expected to become operational during the final quarter of 2026, although citizenship will remain subject to the eligibility checks and approval procedures established by Argentine authorities.
