Mbappé vs PSG: French justice closes harassment investigation
The latest legal chapter in the long-running dispute between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain has come to an end, with investigating judges in Paris issuing a non-suit in the case concerning allegations of moral harassment against the French forward.
The decision was taken at the end of May 2026 but was only publicly reported in October, according to sources close to the proceedings cited by AFP. The judges concluded that there were not sufficient grounds to continue the case.
A complaint withdrawn before the investigation ended
The criminal proceedings began after Mbappé filed a complaint against his former club in May 2025. The complaint concerned allegations of moral harassment and an attempted coercion related to his treatment by PSG during the final period of his time in Paris.
Mbappé subsequently withdrew the complaint in July 2025. According to a source close to the case, the investigating judges considered that his withdrawal, which he also made public, significantly limited the possibility of pursuing the investigation.
The case therefore reached a procedural dead end, with investigators unable to pursue the allegations in the same way once the complainant no longer supported the proceedings. The resulting non-suit does not amount to a finding that every allegation was proven or disproven; rather, it closes this particular criminal investigation on the basis cited by the magistrates.
Neither PSG nor Mbappé's lawyer, Me Pierre-Olivier Sur, provided a comment when approached by AFP.
The dispute dates back to Mbappé's exclusion from the first-team group
At the heart of the complaint was the treatment Mbappé received during the summer of 2023, when PSG temporarily placed him apart from the main professional squad.
The practice, commonly referred to in French football as a “loft”, involves separating players from the first-team group. Such measures can be used by clubs when negotiations over a contract or a transfer have broken down. Mbappé's case unfolded amid a major disagreement over his future, after he declined to extend his PSG contract.
The forward ultimately completed his contract and left PSG as a free agent in 2024, joining Real Madrid.
A separate financial battle
The end of the criminal investigation does not erase the broader legal conflict between Mbappé and his former club.
A separate dispute involving unpaid salaries, bonuses and other contractual payments went before the Paris labour court. In December 2025, PSG was ordered to pay Mbappé nearly €61 million, and the club subsequently chose not to appeal, making that ruling final.
That financial case followed the same turbulent period that had marked the final stages of Mbappé's Paris career, but it was legally distinct from the criminal complaint over alleged moral harassment.
With the criminal investigation now closed, the judicial history between the player and his former club has reached another significant endpoint, after several years of sporting, contractual and legal tensions.
