His Majesty King Mohammed VI has sent a congratulatory message to Iraqi President Nizar Amidi on the occasion of Iraq’s National Day, highlighting the longstanding ties between Rabat and Baghdad and the shared interest in deepening bilateral cooperation.

In his message, the Moroccan monarch conveyed his warm congratulations to President Amidi and expressed his wishes for continued progress and prosperity for the Iraqi people, alongside security and stability.

The royal message also placed particular emphasis on the relationship between the two countries, describing it as rooted in strong bonds of fraternity. King Mohammed VI used the occasion to reaffirm Morocco’s commitment to further developing these ties and strengthening cooperation between the two states.

Focus on cooperation and shared interests

The message underlined the importance of expanding practical cooperation and reinforcing solidarity between Morocco and Iraq. The stated objective is to advance areas of common interest while supporting closer relations between the two peoples.

The diplomatic gesture comes as Nizar Amidi serves as Iraq’s president after being elected by the Iraqi parliament in April 2026. The Council of Representatives elected Amidi with 227 votes in the second round, according to the Iraqi News Agency.

Amidi officially assumed the presidency on April 12, 2026, during a ceremony in Baghdad, succeeding Abdul Latif Rashid.

A diplomatic message centered on stability

Beyond the formal congratulations marking Iraq’s national occasion, the Moroccan message places security, stability and prosperity at the center of its wishes for the Iraqi people. It also signals Rabat’s stated interest in maintaining momentum in relations with Baghdad through cooperation and mutual support.

The emphasis on bilateral solidarity reflects the broader diplomatic framework described in the message, with Morocco and Iraq encouraged to consolidate their existing links and pursue areas where their interests converge.
