CAF Announces Dates for 2025 AFCON and WAFCON in Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed the dates for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), both of which will be held in Morocco. This announcement followed a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Cairo.

The 2025 AFCON is scheduled to commence on December 21, 2025, and will run until January 18, 2026. Meanwhile, the 2025 WAFCON will begin on July 5, 2025, with the final match set for July 26. The scheduling of these tournaments has been meticulously planned to align with both international and domestic football calendars.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe acknowledged the complexity involved in finalizing these dates. "The announcement of the dates for the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 took much longer than expected, as there were complex and at times challenging discussions with various interested parties, given the extensive International and Domestic Match Calendars," Motsepe stated.

A key consideration in selecting these dates was to avoid a clash with the FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in an expanded 32-team format.

Motsepe expressed his confidence in Morocco’s ability to host an exceptional tournament. "I am confident that the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be extremely successful and will be the best AFCON in the history of this competition," he remarked. He also highlighted the significant growth of women’s football in Africa, anticipating that the WAFCON Morocco 2025 will be "immensely successful."

Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF), reiterated Morocco’s dedication to providing optimal conditions for the tournaments. "We hope that the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be the best event to honor Africa, and Morocco will make available the best conditions to host the rest of Africa and the World," Lekjaa affirmed.

With these announcements, CAF sets the stage for Morocco to deliver world-class football events, showcasing the continent’s talent and fostering the growth of the sport.
