BYD in talks to expand in Europe through potential factory acquisitions
BYD Company Limited is reportedly in discussions with European automakers, including Stellantis N.V., over the possible acquisition or use of underutilized production facilities in Europe, according to industry reports.
The Chinese electric vehicle giant is seeking to expand its presence in the European market as competition intensifies in the global transition toward electric mobility. Talks are said to involve several car manufacturers, focusing on ways to optimize existing industrial capacity rather than building entirely new factories from scratch.
According to reports, the strategy reflects BYD’s broader ambition to strengthen its international manufacturing footprint while reducing production costs and accelerating market entry in Europe. The company has rapidly grown in recent years, becoming one of the leading global players in electric vehicles and battery technologies.
Industry analysts note that European automakers are currently facing significant structural changes, including declining demand in some segments and the high cost of transitioning to electric vehicle production. As a result, partnerships or shared use of facilities have become an increasingly attractive option.
If successful, such agreements could reshape parts of the European automotive landscape by increasing cooperation between Chinese manufacturers and established European brands, while also improving efficiency in underused industrial sites.
However, discussions are still ongoing and no final agreements have been confirmed, according to the report. Both companies are expected to continue evaluating strategic options in response to shifting global market conditions.
