Kenitra prosecutor denies reports of minor’s marriage by “Fatiha” ceremony

The Kenitra Public Prosecutor’s Office has officially refuted recent social media and online claims alleging that a minor had been married to an adult through a traditional “Fatiha” ceremony.

In a statement, the Prosecutor General at the Court of Appeal of Kenitra clarified that the reports circulating online are entirely unfounded. The alleged marriage involved a girl said to be around 14 years old, but official investigations reveal that the child is actually 11, living safely with her family, and had no involvement in the purported incident.

Following the circulation of these claims, a judicial inquiry was launched by the Royal Gendarmerie in Kenitra, including a complaint filed by a civil society organization. Authorities confirmed that the information was false and emphasized that legal measures will be taken against those responsible for spreading the misleading content, which violated the privacy of the child and her family.

Investigators continue to identify the source of the misinformation and ensure accountability. The Prosecutor’s Office reassured the public that protecting minors and enforcing child rights remains a top priority.
