Pelosi Criticizes Biden for Election Loss as Democrats Point Fingers

Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has suggested that the Democrats’ performance in Tuesday’s election could have been better if President Joe Biden had stepped aside earlier. In an interview with *The New York Times*, Pelosi stated that had Biden exited the race sooner, other Democratic candidates might have entered, potentially shifting the election’s outcome.

Pelosi’s comments reflect growing frustration within the Democratic Party following its loss of the White House and potentially both chambers of Congress. Reports indicate that Pelosi was a key figure in urging Biden to withdraw from the race, a decision he made in July after significant pressure, largely due to a poor debate performance against Donald Trump.

After Biden’s withdrawal, he quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. However, Harris faced a tough defeat to Trump, further intensifying the blame placed on Biden. Pelosi explained that had Biden stepped down earlier, it could have triggered an open primary, allowing multiple Democratic candidates to compete for the nomination. She believed that such a process might have benefited Harris, making her a stronger contender in the future, but acknowledged that the scenario didn’t unfold as hoped.

On the campaign trail, Harris’s team also expressed disappointment, blaming Biden for the loss. One aide stated, "Joe Biden is the singular reason Kamala Harris and Democrats lost tonight." However, a former Biden aide dismissed the claims, questioning how the campaign spent $1 billion without securing a win.

Meanwhile, others within the party pointed fingers at different culprits. Former Biden aides suggested that Barack Obama's advisers contributed to the party’s internal struggles, including efforts to push Biden out and opposition to Harris as the nominee. Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania criticized those who sought to remove Biden, stating they should "own the outcome and fallout."

New York Congressman Tom Suozzi added that the party's loss was partly due to its focus on political correctness, struggling to counter Republican attacks on issues like campus anarchy and police funding. Fellow New York Democrat Ritchie Torres blamed the far-left for alienating key demographic groups, including Latinos, Blacks, Asians, and Jews, with controversial stances on issues such as police defunding and the use of terms like "Latinx."

Senator Bernie Sanders also weighed in, accusing the Democratic leadership of neglecting working-class Americans and clinging to the status quo. He suggested that the party would fail to learn from its defeat. In contrast, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison dismissed Sanders’ critique, calling it “straight up BS.”
